The new exhibition project, "Logos: The Voice of Constructivism," explores how constructivism, through its artistic expression, has shaped modern media such as radio, cinema, magazines, photography, and books.

The exhibition is the second at the Zotov Cultural Center, which is located in the former Bakery No. 5 building. The building has been renovated according to the design of “SPEECH” architectural bureau, and has a circular shape that was designed in the early 20th century for efficient bread production. Today, the cultural center consists of four floors: the first floor hosts events and installations, the second and third floors serve as exhibition spaces, and the fourth floor houses a lecture hall and bookstore.

Returning to the layout of the space, it's worth noting that the halls are shaped like a circle with a cylindrical volume at the center of the hall that hides various communication lines. As a result, the exposition layout is extremely complex, and the radial arrangement of tracks and varying ceiling heights require a non-standard approach to museum lightning design.

The lighting concept is based on three main components. The first component is support for architectural solutions and the layout. Each hall is different from the others due to the combination of rooms, openings, the shape of showcases, and stands. Light was used to emphasize the rhythm of structures, highlight important viewpoints, and contribute to the overall aesthetic perception of the halls and their exhibits.

The second component is related to the showcase space and the exhibits. The lighting solutions aimed to hide the sources from the visitors while also considering the soft filling of the niches and storefronts with light.

The third component involves impressions. A lot of attention was paid to the shadows on the floor and walls, as they visually emphasized the theme of the exhibition. Through contrasts and focal points, we were able to create a logical flow for the viewer's attention, following the curatorial narrative.

The challenge of working with lighting in the Zotov Space was the varying color temperatures of the available light sources at the venue. The advertised 3000K rating was significantly different between manufacturers. The exhibit stands were constructed from slightly tinted plywood, which immediately highlighted any changes in color rendition and chromaticity.

We had to completely stop using Sylvania products at the exhibition, as they gave a clear red hue and, when focused, caused a yellow chromatic aberration along the edge of the light spot. Several accents were used in the entrance and exit area of the halls.

For the exterior lighting of the exhibition, we used ERCO fixtures because they provided a soft light and had various options for adjusting the optics and brightness. We selected embedded LED strips and additional low-voltage accent lights for this purpose.
